In 2006, Los Angeles pioneering pop & trip hop artist Bitter:Sweet dominated KCRW airtime with songs like “Dirty Laundry” and the title track from their debut album The Mating Game. Flash forward almost two decades later, Bitter:Sweet–now helmed by singer-songwriter and founding member Shana Halligan–is back with a brand new album Baby Is Back set for release April 25, 2025. To celebrate, Bitter:Sweet will host an album release concert at West Hollywood’s Peppermint Club that night. Tickets are on sale now here.

“Baby Is Back” is a playful, fun, and strong comeback. “I’m here, and I’m ready. I wanted to make a big band, swinging banger with Bitter:Sweet’s roots while propelling the new music into this exciting new era. “We began by diving into the music that has influenced me and experimenting with beats, horns, and a variety of sonic textures. The band’s music has always been about freedom, vibrancy, and limitless creativity, and the new album takes that even further.” – Shana Halligan. “

The album’s title track, the electrifying single “Baby Is Back” is Bitter:Sweet’s newest offering. Since its release on January 31, it has been building at non-commercial radio, chalking up KCRW’s Top Tune of the Day and a band performance on 88.5 FM’s The SoCal Sound Sessions. The track has also been added to multiple in-store playlists including Kiehls and is in rotation with Lemmele and AMC movie theatres nationwide.

The forthcoming album will be the band’s first since 2010’s The Break Up EP, and it is a thrilling evolution and a spiritual homecoming for Bitter:Sweet. Written in collaboration with producers Verskotzi, Tony Esterly, and DRMS, the album conveys a strong message, affirming that frontwoman Shana Halligan is firmly in charge. This follows “Baby Is Back” and the emotionally resonant piece “Rise” which arrives on March 28. The album blends electronic music, jazz, and influences from classic Hollywood soundtracks, enriching the band’s unique sound.

Halligan’s unmistakable voice has long cemented her status among the most iconic voices in adult-contemporary electronic music. From collaborating with Serj Tankian of System of a Down to co-writing and singing the Thievery Corporation hit single “Depth of My Soul,” lending her vocal talents to Nouvelle Vague, and collaborating with GRAMMY award-winning collective The String Theory, her artistry continued to resonate across an array of projects during her time away from Bitter:Sweet.
