Fall Out Boy Brings Sold-Out So Much For (2our) Dust Show to MSG [Review]

This past Friday, March 22, Fall Out Boy delivered yet another memorable performance – and this time it was for a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden. Bringing their So Much For (2our) Dust Tour to The World’s Most Famous Arena, The Garden served as the perfect venue for the band, who was joined by a slew of opening and support acts. Included on the bill, Jimmy Eat World, Hot Mulligan, and Games We Play, performed their sets ahead of FOB taking the stage just after 9pm.

So Much For (2our) Dust is in support of Fall Out Boy’s latest album, So Much (For) Stardust, which was released one year ago through Fueled By Ramen/Elektra Music Group. There’s a certain aura that fill the walls and spaces of MSG, and that energy caused a ripple effect throughout the crowd over the course of the night. Just after 9 o’clock, FOB began their 30-track setlist  with “Love From the Other Side,” “The Phoenix,” and one of their biggest hits, “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down,” which had The Garden rocking – both metaphorically and quite literally.

As the night progressed, Fall Out Boy included familiar songs like “Uma Thurman,” the classic “Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy,” “Calm Before The Storm,” and “This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race,” while also incorporating tour debuts of tracks like “XO” and “Tell That Mick He Just Made My List Of Things To Do Today.” The rumbles of Penn Station – which is just underneath MSG (for those of you who are unaware) – were nothing in comparison to the crowd roars and singalongs.

From their 2023 album, So Much (For) Stardust, the guys also included LP tracks “Heaven, Iowa,” “Baby Annihilation,” “Fake Out,” “Hold Me Like A Grudge,” and, of course, the title track, “So Much (For) Stardust.” Before we get to their remaining his on the evening’s tracklisting, it’s also important to mention the covers performed: “Don’t Stop Me Now,” originally by Queen; “Song 2,” made famous by Blur; and “Slow Down” by The Academy Is…; and honorable mention goes out to “Spidey and His Amazing Friends.”

The night’s Magic 8-ball songs were “Get Busy Living Or Get Busy Dying (Do Your Part To Save The Scene And Stop Going To Shows)” and “Slow Down.” What would the night be without some of the other classic FOB hits like “Dance, Dance,” “My Songs Know You What You Did in The Dark (Light Em Up),” “Thnks fr th Mmrs,” “Centuries,” and a closing with “Saturday.” Fall Out Boy’s still got it – and we’re already looking forward to what they’ll bring next time around.
