Jori Collignon’s New COLLIGNON Project Debut, ‘Pontcha ku Lua’ EP
Today Collignon delivers his brand new Pontcha ku Lua EP via Reflektor Records. The captivating three-track EP is Jori Collignon’s debut under his recently established ‘COLLIGNON’ project.
You’ll find this new sound is void of lyrics and vocals as Jori wants to create music that speaks for itself. He shares, “There are so many voices everywhere, so much talk. For now, what I want to say is best expressed just by sound and instruments.”
The COLLIGNON sound is just that – a unique blend of acoustic world instruments and forward-thinking electronic elements which make way for a diverse array of futuristic soundscapes and spirited instrumentals. The EP is packed with sounds from his travels where he draws the majority of his inspiration, with the goal of continuing to travel even while at home through the music.
There is a strong traditional Western African influence in Collignon’s music and displayed through the EP’s title track, furthered by bandmates and chief collaborators Gino Bombrini, Senor Nelson Costa and Sjam Sjamsoedin. Elements of North Africa and Latin America are strung across the EP as well in “I Left My Wallet in Essaouira” and “Noetic”. Each track stands out with originality as he creatively combines these styles in innovative and interesting ways.
This dynamic approach also extends to his new live show concept – a loud and exotic affair using driven up guitar-amps and live improvisation to push its sound to unexplored levels. Accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Gino Bombrini (former bandmate from SKIP&DIE), their performances are, unsurprisingly, both engaging and passionate.
