Maddy O’Neal x Defunk Release Trap-Infused Single “Come For You”

Following her electrifying debut performance at Ultra Music Festival and ahead of her direct support slot at the upcoming REZZ show at Red Rocks, Denver’s own electro-soul luminary, Maddy O’Neal is igniting the festival season with unparalleled energy and style. Now, the shape-shifting artist unveils “Come For You,” a glitchy, trap-infused single in collaboration with Defunk, the Canadian producer and Gramatik-collaborator known for his dynamic fusion of bass-heavy beats, funky rhythms, and soulful melodies.

“This track is one that has had a few different evolutions since its inception. I experimented with some different elements that are not traditionally in my productions like the iconic 303 synth bass. This classic sequenced bass sound is less often used in bass music as it is in house and techno and I always love a good challenge to flip up the roles of the way certain sounds or techniques are used. The mix of trap and soulful vox in this came together in such a unique format. When I tapped Defunk to join in halfway through the process, he really became the glue to all the ideas I had in one.” – Maddy O’Neal

“Come For You” kicks off with worldly instrumental textures and layers of harrowing, atmospheric synths, creating a sense of anticipation as commanding, soulful vocals are weaved into the track on top of trap drum rhythms. The song then quickly explodes into a cacophony of mind-altering acid basslines, bruising, distorted bass tones, and hair-raising snare hits.

With its distinct fusion of aesthetics, “Come For You” could find a home as easily in a warehouse rave as it would on the mainstage of a bass festival.
