Markus Schulz & HALIENE’s “Ave Maria” Hits #3 on Beatport’s Top 100

Currently sitting at #3 on Beatport’s Top 100 is Markus Schulz and HALIENE’s joint rendition of the classic “Ave Maria.” Although it’s a tune that’s been sung by vocalists from Bocelli to Beyoncé, this is a first for the song in the electronic music space. A long-established and highly respected song as this requires an exceptional vocalist, which was luckily found in HALIENE. Her angelic sound and impressive range combined with Markus’ carefully placed frame have not only done the song justice but exceeded in delivery. 

Paired with both a powerful festival remix and a beautiful acoustic mix, “Ave Maria” pulsates with emotion throughout, mixed with minor key pathos and major uplift. The track made its premiere at this year’s Ultra Miami and was handpicked by Armin van Buuren for his ‘A State of Trance Ibiza 2019’ album. So naturally, it was released on his Armind imprint and has taken to soaring heights since. A deeply personal track for Markus, “Ave Maria” was inspired by the loss of his mother in the early Spring. Honoring her with a celebratory rework of the song, his instincts steered him right.

In DJ Mag’s July issue review, they awarded the track a mighty 8.5 stating, “Delivered in Latin, ‘Ave Maria’s regularly ranged in the mezzo-soprano and contains libretti like ‘mulieribus’ & ‘peccatorbus’. When singing it, there’s nowhere to hide. With extraordinary top-note reach and perfect pitch, HALIENE sounds like she was born singing it. Produced as a final tribute to his mother, Markus’s interpretation equalises ‘Ave’s vocal lament with a positive, vivid post-break updraft. Moving without a doubt.”
