2022 MTV Video Music Awards Airing Live From Newark, NJ on Sun., Aug. 28, as VMAs Remain on East Coast
From Brooklyn’s Barclays Center straight across the bridge to Newark, New Jersey, this year’s 2022 MTV Video Music Awards are slated to take place live on Sunday, August 28. Coming to you from NJ’s Prudential Center, be sure to tune in on MTV, VH1, and Paramount+ to catch all of the action-packed performances, awards, and most shocking VMA moments at 8pm EST.
There’s something about having the VMAs in the Tri-State area that truly complements the show itself. From their past years at Madison Square Garden, Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, and now Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center, viewers can expect a flavor-packed, swag-filled, and unforgettable 2022 Video Music Awards.
For generations, the MTV VMAs has been a cultural staple in music and entertainment — and this year is certain to be no exception. From Britney Spears’ famous kiss with Madonna in 2003 (and let’s not forget about her controversial 2000 performance, when she danced with a python around her neck in 2001, when she presented the Video Vanguard award to Michael Jackson in 2002), to Kanye West and Taylor Swift’s controversial acceptance speech, to Michael Jackson and then-wife Lisa Marie Presley’s lip-locking at the 1994 VMAs, to Lil Kim’s infamous seashell outfit in 1999, to Rage Against the Machine bassist Tim Commerford bum rushing the 2000 VMAs stage, attempting to bring the entire night to a halt by climbing the production after losing to Limp Bizkit, to Lady Gaga’s 2010 notorious meat dress, to Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke’s buzzworthy 2013 VMA performance, and all those most-talked-about moments in between — the MTV VMAs remain one of the most relevant, prominent, and fun award shows there is.
