Richard Durand Comes Full Circle With ‘The Air We Breathe’
After six years, industry veteran Richard Durand has come full circle with a radiant new album The Air We Breathe. Officially out now, the album is the answer to trance lovers prayers, spanning 19 tracks that go full throttle on the dance floor.
Another testament to the tremendous roster of gifted producers the city of Amsterdam cranks out, Durand has remained in the forefront of leading dance music. Over the period of time since his last album Richard Durand Versus The World, he has travelled the world over a dozen times, performing, producing, and experiencing full doses of proper life balancing. Durand also moved with a shift in music after experiencing the loss of a long-time friend and manager. Turning loss into inspiration, The Air We Breathe marks a new era of sonic ventures for the Dutchman and the world of trance as a whole.
Giving special attention to each of the 19 records, The Air We Breathe was delicately crafted by the maestro himself as well as a handful of seasoned vocalists and fellow producers. Marco V, Mark Sherry, and Sied van Riel, for example, build the album with Durand’s shared vision for thunderous clubbing trance. Driving the album into elegant twists are none other than the beloved Christina Novelli and Mike Schmid, appearing with an abundance of heart soaring lyrics and tones.
Kicking off the auditory adventure is “Insolidus,” Durand’s showstopping team up with Geert Huinink, the iconic co-writer of Tiësto’s opening three albums. The track immediately sets the mood for what is to come, boasting a surreal amount of serendipity in bassline and harmony. Songs like “Aida” and “The Sacred Vine Richard Durand Remix” wrap your mind into an endless bliss of melody, while collaborators Schmid and Novelli dish out their ever-atmospheric voices for “Kill The Fear” and Durand’s Beatport chart topping, most recent single “The Air I Breathe.” “Savage,” “Toxic,” “Vortex,” and the enrapturing “Boogieman” supply the album with an onrush of ‘4AM’-ness.
Taking us through a spellbinding journey of pure soul, euphoria, intricate rhythms, and endearing musical creativity, the six year time gap clearly hasn’t impacted Durand’s infinite ability to bring expansive symphonies of sound to life. The essence of The Air We Breathe successes Durand’s previous masterpieces such as 2009’s Always The Sun and 2011’s Wide Awake – both albums that led up to this vamped up, freshly minted entrancement of trance music itself.
