Solarstone Takes us on a Trip in Exotic Album ‘Island’
Summer usually means traveling, tropical vacations, island getaways, and if you’re a prominent DJ/producer, then it means a guaranteed escape to the island of Ibiza. Since that wasn’t in the picture this year (sadly), the one and only Solarstone decided to take us on a sonic trip himself with a brand new album titled Island.
The entire Island concept sprouted with the realization that these past few summer months weren’t going to be what we would typically imagine them to be. So instead, Solarstone transported what would have been paradise directly to our ears. The album kicks off with its title track “Island,” which encompasses coastal melodic soundscapes that mirror what any island would sound like right upon arrival. Tranquil and progressive synths, flute-like instruments, and birds chirping create the perfect arrangement of sounds to introduce what the rest of the album’s sonic journey will bring about.
“This music collection is a love letter to Ibiza, recorded between March & July when ‘the Island’ was the one place I yearned to be. Ironically, the lockdown – a unique time of rare focus for many DJ/producers – meant that I could conceive & create a record that in ‘normal’ times probably couldn’t have happened. ‘Normal’ meaning flights to catch, snatched studio time and a requisite to make ‘music to play in clubs’. These things can create studio tunnel-vision, so this is my ‘lockdown silver lining’ which represents a day and a night on ‘the island’ that so many of us miss, but will which hopefully soon return.” – Solarstone
Solarstone’s stellar 10-track album is nothing short of breathtaking, and strangely, we have lockdown to thank for that. As the iconic producer’s least trance heavy ensemble, it’s surely a project worth exploring thoroughly. Its final track “Tied” (island version), wraps up this astonishing tropical adventure with its serene, downtempo melody and provokes both a sense of relaxation and comfort for what the future holds.
If you haven’t yet, take a trip with Solarstone and listen to Island in full, a trip that has already departed via Blackhole Recordings and is available on all major streaming platforms.
