Amelie Lens Drops Trance-Leaning “Breathe” as First Track of ’24

The Belgium Amelie Lens spent what downtime she had during her pregnancy wisely. The worldwide techno icon has a wealth of new releases in the works, and she’s starting with the heavily trance-inspired “Breathe” via her own label, EXHALE.

“I worked on soooo much music during my pregnancy and cannot wait to start releasing new music!!” Lens wrote in an early March social media post. “Two tracks are coming out this month! Maybe you can guess which ones as you might have heard them in my sets recently????”- Amelie Lens

As a title, “Breathe” is oddly similar to “Exhale,” Lens’ debut 2016 single on Lyase Recordings, and from which her own label takes its name. The similarities end there, though. While heavier on spoken word vocals than much of what tickles the fancy of techno purists, the latter track’s cavernous kick drums, growling basses, and heavy emphasis on foley effects are a far cry from the saccharine chord progressions that drive her latest release. Between its sultry vocals, layered synth work, and dramatic breakdown, the single would mesh perfectly with the selections of a tech trance DJ set. “Breathe” is out now on all mayor digital steaming platforms.
